As of May 2026, the situation for women in Afghanistan has reached a catastrophic breaking point, shifting from restrictive to a state of total legal erasure. Under the newly codified Decree No. 12, the regime has effectively legalized domestic violence by removing protections for women and making it nearly impossible to report abuse without a male guardian. The "morality laws" of 2026 have been tightened to the point of absurdity; a woman’s voice is now legally considered "awrah" (intimate), meaning she is prohibited from speaking in public, even to other women or for prayer. This systematic "gender apartheid" has also crippled the humanitarian response, as women are now banned from working with the UN and aid organizations, cutting off millions from life-saving medical care and food. With the training of new female doctors and midwives completely halted, maternal mortality is skyrocketing, and the world is witnessing the deliberate, legal dismantling of an entire gender's existence 💔
