Maybe it's something like an outdated cultural reference, a habit like saying lol after damn near everything, or a term stopped being really as acceptable to say as it used to be, such as gay for lame?
For me it's definitely the lol thing and saying the R word. Do I say that word in public? No it's really just with my friends around the same age. Do I understand why I shouldn't say it? Yes, but at this point it's kind of ingrained in my lexicon and it would take a fair amount of effort to consciously break that habit cause it was so common back then. Also my DnD friends just cannot stop ourselves from referencing the Vanessa Carlton song whenever we say "making my way"
Edit: God damn it. I'm reading these responses and I'm like "Shit I do a lot of these as well"
