OK, so every country is now considering how to tackle social media addiction and the effect it is having on the development of young people.
How about we introduce a mandatory "buffering time", maybe 10 seconds, before every video, on every app. Just simulate a bad connection.
I think it would severely cut down on the infinite scroll idea, particularly for reels, shorts, and tik tok videos. If you have to look up for ten seconds between every video you are much more likely to put the phone down.
And I don't think it would have much of an effect on longer form video creators.. We already have to watch a five second or ten second ad before a lot of those anyway.
