I love dogs and cats. And birds and cows all the animals.
But my god people assign them so many traits and in particular complex thoughts that we know aren't even really possible due to the differences between our brains and theirs.
The one that has always gotten me the most is dogs "smiling"
Dogs do have ways to show us they're happy. Curling up the edge of the lips and showing teeth is not one of them. That's a trait unique to humans as far as we know. What we have done is selectively bred dogs to have faces that mimic the shape of a human smile. We did this so well that now we actually believe our dogs are smiling.
