Maybe things have changed since I was a teenager, but Shakespeare plays should be taught in schools as the performances they are. Not cold read at home, or god forbid out loud with the class where one poor sap gets “cast” by the teacher as Hamlet and has to struggle through all that verse.
Every single Shakespeare play is readily available to watch online with professional, often a list actors playing the parts. David Tenet famously played Hamlet.
Having your first exposure to “To be or not to be” be just the written word with no inflection or emotion from an actor or god forbid read aloud by a voluntold class mate (which is what I had to suffer through) is like reading stand up comedy. It eliminates an essential part of how the story is meant to be experienced.
