First off I just want to say that I think bass music is becoming increasingly popular (probably part of the problem) so I don’t think this is too much of a niche topic to be posting about. Anyway, riddim completely looses its value outside of massive sound systems. It’s psyop music engineered to cultivate lots of money and huge crowds of “bass junkies” who just wanna do mollie at live shows. I used to get bullied for listening to dubstep and now the same people are at shows listening to riddim and being performative sluts. I know you’re gonna say “just because you have an opinion on something doesn’t make it bad” well riddim is objectively really fucking bad. A 4 on the floor beat with a dry ass snare kick combo and over engineered bass with some occasional triplets or some polyrhythm doesn’t fucking make music. You have an unfinished track that a generative algorithm could probably do a better job at.
Riddim is an excuse for producers to create large sounding “music” with very minimal composition/writing skills where it only sometimes shines in sound design. Actually not even the sound design can redeem itself. You want good n heavy but also tasteful bass, listen to Teminite or some shit. Riddim needs to die.
