Rain isn't bad weather. It's just weather you haven't made peace with yet.

I moved from Australia to Dublin and everyone keeps waiting for me to crack. "Don't you miss the sun?" Sure, sometimes. But I genuinely don't think rain is bad weather and I reckon most people who complain about it have just never tried to actually be in it rather than hide from it.

Bad weather implies something went wrong. Rain is just the sky doing its thing. You can walk in it, hike in it, sit near a window with a coffee and watch it, and all of those are fine. The misery isn't the rain, it's the gap between what you wanted and what you got.

I've hiked in downpours that were some of the best days I've had outdoors. I've also been in perfect 30 degree sunshine and been completely miserable because the company was bad or I was tired or whatever. Weather doesn't set your mood, you do.

People in genuinely sunny countries treat a cloudy day like a personal insult. That's not a healthy relationship with the sky. Rain is neutral. Your attitude toward it isn't.
