I won’t go into a full film synopsis on either, but Pirates of the Caribbean, a 23 year old Disney movie, is better than what critics consider a modern Oscar winner.
The screenplay is better put together, scenes are more engaging, character development is stronger, the story is better constructed and played out and, well, insert literally any other aspect or damn near any other blockbuster movie from 20 years ago.
I’m using Pirates because it’s a kind of funny comparison, but it‘s true. What we consider quality movies these days is so watered down, derivative, predictable, and a dime a dozen that it’s unreal.
