People who describe themselves as "foodies" are usually just privileged snobby twats who have always had access to expensive food/restaurants.

I've really noticed a pattern with people who call themselves "foodies." They're usually always from rich families, the food they enjoy eating/cooking almost always has expensive ingredients, or are found on the menu of expensive restaurants. The food that they turn their noses up at are usually food that people on a budget, or those can barely afford the cost of living have to eat. Of course this is a generalization - but honestly, I've met quite a few of these people and they're always the same.

I have many examples but one stands out to me: lately i went on a trip with a few of these people. The way they acted was completely insufferable- they would talk about food all day, and weren't happy unless we were eating at very specific high end restaurants/cafes, that met their dietary requirements. When we got there, they would critique the meals constantly and sometimes it was embarrassing. We got into a conversation about what our favourite food was as a child. I grew up poor - so I start telling them my favourite meal that my mum used to make which was chicken, rice, with soy garlic and lemon juice. I said I know it's very basic, but I loved it because it was tasty but also filling (we didn't have much food so I was usually still always hungry after dinner.)

They then started looking at each other shocked, which turned into smirks. One of them claimed it was "child abuse." I said well, I still love it now and sometimes make it for my own kids, who also like it. They simply replied "well remind me to never come to your house for dinner then."

I get that people have food intolerances and aversions. Im not saying they have to eat like me. But seriously? These people have obviously never known struggle and are completely tone deaf. I think anyone would be a foodie if they were fed top tier expensive gourmet dishes their whole life.
