A common belief is that the majority of people switch up over time. The problem is, most times when people switched up on me, there were always a lot of subtle things I missed in hindsight. I either ignored it, allowed it, or justified the disrespect or weird behavior. Years down the line, it can feel like their mask slipped, when really they were exactly who they always were, I just did not see it.

The same applies to most people’s relationships. Once you start asking questions about when the first time the person’s behavior changed, they begin to reflect. A lot of people pay attention to the obvious things, but rarely ever the subtle changes that lead to the switch up. A lot of it could have been foreseen if they accepted who the person was from early on.
