Penalty kicks in soccer are such a cheap and boring way of stat-padding

I'm not talking about the penalty shootouts. I'm talking about in-game fouls that result in a penalty kick.

I never understood why its the norm in soccer that any player is allowed to take a penalty kick. It should be designated to the player who actually drew the penalty, like it is for hockey or basketball.

I feel like the NBA is a perfect comparison because both the average free throw percentage and the average penalty scoring percentage in soccer hovers around 75%. But can you imagine a basketball game where you can choose to whoever you want to take your free throws? Just putting Steph Curry out there anytime your team gets a free throw and letting him rack up points at an ungodly pace. Even in Bam's 83 point game, people complained about how "unethically" it was obtained.

Meanwhile in soccer, you can just give your best player free goals that count the same as an open play goal, all because someone unrelated on your team drew a penalty. The idea of being celebrated for scoring a hat trick or whatever after being gifted two or three free penalty shots because your teammates drew penalties feels so cheap and dumb.
