Parrots should NOT be the 'default' bird pet

Every time I walk into a pet store or see videos online of pet birds its always some kind of budgerigar or parrot and it pisses me off.

Why on earth would you try to own a budgie, a bird who naturally flocks with tens of hundreds to even thousands of its own kind in the wild and keep it in a small cramped cage with maybe one other bird ten if you're a breeder. Larger parrots are more understandable but still the fact that its a common practice to clip parrots wings in order to get them to stay on the ground and not hurt themselves indoors or so that the bird becomes more dependant on its owner so it can bond easier is terrible. These birds are also loud and need lots of maneuverability and socializing to be happy. However a lot of owners just treat them as decorations.

Why parrots? Is it just cause of the fact that they can mimic voices or cause of their bright feather colors?

Birds like chickens or ducks are way better choices, to be honest any poultry or domestic mallard is a good choice as they dont need to be sectioned off from the outside world and are easier to raise and dont need a lot of interaction.

Even if you want a bird thats can fly or is smarter than livestock or will imprint on you/interact with you just get a dove or a pidgeon. Pidgeons are the literal best bird companion you could have and so long as it considers your home its nest it could find its way back to you from halfway across the world (if its a homing one of course) and they love interacting with humans and they dont burst your ears when near them as they tend to either gently coo or just be silent most of the time. They only get a bad rep because they became an invasive species in big cities but thats literally just cause they know how to live with humans and like being near them. They dont even have any tranmissable diseases unless you're handling *hundreds* of pounds worth of *wild* pidgeon poop.
