Maybe it’s not a high bar, but he’s funnier than Rob Schneider and is just as funny as Kevin James and David Spade. I don’t know why he gets shit on the most. Bucky Larson wasn’t even that bad. It’s better than Jack and Jill and a lot of Sandler’s recent comedy films. Kevin Nelson is funny and some of the visual gags, like the pool, are great. It still has that golden era Happy Madison vibe before it all started feeling sterile. It’s certainly better than Schneider’ solo films. Rob always acts like he’s better than what he’s in or is trying to put on some cool guy facade. Swardson at least commits to the bit and seems sincere.
He has a good schtick and is usually funny enough. He gets an unfair rap. It must be because he wasn’t on SNL or had SNL connections. Or because he didn’t have prior star appeal or relevance, like how Kevin James had King Of Queens even though he wasn’t on SNL.
