Mother’s Day is about your mother and not your spouse

My wife and I are debating what generation Mother’s Day should be focused on; if you’re married and have children, is Mother’s Day more about your spouse (the mother of your children) or your mom (who brought you into this world). I understand it’s sort of both, but my vote is it’s more about your immediate mother.
