I have noticed that it is a common staple at weddings and proposals, but if you actually listen to the lyrics, it is the furthest thing from a romantic commitment. It is not a song about "forever"; it is a song about being bored, drunk, and making a mistake.
The entire premise of the song is based on spontaneity fueled by "dancing juice" (alcohol). Lines like "It’s a beautiful night, we’re looking for something dumb to do". You’re saying that marrying me is dumb? and "Who cares if we’re trashed, got a pocket full of cash we can blow" suggest that the marriage isn't a life-long vow, but rather a reckless whim.
He even explicitly says, "If we wake up and you wanna break up, that’s cool." Wow!
Shouldn’t a proposal should be about certainty and a shared future? Using a song that treats marriage as a "dumb" activity to do while "trashed" is actually kind of INSULTING to the person you’re asking to spend your life with. It’s a catchy song, but as a romantic gesture, it’s SO low-effort.
Every time I see a flash mob proposal with the song I just cringe.
