It's better to have a solid 9–5 than try to build something yourself in 2026

It seems everyone expects me to be building some kind of startup or side project if I want to stay relevant.

Not happening.

Most of my friends who try to do something are always stressed out, broke, work 12+ hour days, and have absolutely no guarantee it will even work. The people who actually have regular jobs earn their money consistently, have health insurance, and don’t have to think about work once they clock out.

The whole 9-to-5 is basically being paid to develop new skills with the help of other people’s time and resources.

Building something yourself sounds nice in theory, but in practice, it’s just unreliable income and constant pressure.

Is it really worth all the stress and instability for what is guaranteed to fail most of the time?
