When I was a math undergrad, I had to take 2nd year English and 2nd year History course. I had no complaints about it. I see a valid reason for wanting somebody representing an educated person to have that level of literacy in their respective language, especially one as universal as English, as well as a decent understanding of History and government, even if that person is not preparing for humanities or social sciences.

However, in the day and age of information technology and sciences, it is unacceptable that it is not expected for Humanities and social science majors to have a basic understanding of math. I know this sounds demanding, but when you put it into perspective, I had to do sophomore level English and History, and I am only asking for first year of college level math, which can also be substituted by AP calculus in high school, unlike my second course of English.
