Of course having at least one close friend is essential bc at some point, each one of us need an anchor. That is gonna be that one close friend. There are also things you can't do with just casual friends that you do with very close friends.
Now, but maybe it's just me who sees it everywhere and it is just not happening, I feel like it's generalized to have just a handful of people you call friends and hang out with. And people take pride in being picky about their friendships.
It's not a bad thing. Not at all. But not every connection is meant to be deep, and that doesn’t make it fake.
Some people are just there for certain moments (e.g. school, hobbies, random conversations, etc.) and that’s still valuable. You don’t need to turn every bond into something intense for it to count.
Having a lot of casual friends can actually mean you’re open, adaptable, and able to connect with different kinds of people. It also takes pressure off a single person to be “everything” for you.
