Gamers don't understand the difficulty curve, it's not a skill issue

I hate that whenever I complain to others about unfair/unfun design of areas, bosses or generally the game itself, I get blasted with "skill issue" and "get better".

There exists something called the difficulty curve.

If the game is too easy, then you don't feel any resistance in achieving your goal which makes it feel unearned.

If the game is too difficult, it leads to frustration. Now I know that this is the appeal of some games, namely Souls and rhythm games. These are not the issue. But making a game unnecessarily difficult without it being the whole premise is bad design and frustrating.

If the game is balanced just right, then you achieve the best gameplay, or 'flow'. This is where most games should be. Yet most games these days are difficult, because for some reason, making a game hard has become a trend.

Off the top of my head, Silksong and Slay The Spire 2 are much more difficult than their counterparts, to the point that you often feel frustrated rather than enjoying it.
