Roaches are the most underappreciated bug. Their long antenna are like big ol' bunny ears, and they're quite expressive with the way they wave them around. Baby roaches are curious and energetic. I've seen my baby hissers "hang out" on branches, using only the limbs from one side of their body to hang from a branch, while the other half of their limbs dangle into the air like a lazy tree sloth. Roaches are the closest living ancestor of praying mantises. They share a similar intelligence. If you look at a roach up close, you can see that they have a neck, much like mantises, hidden behind their pronotum. Roaches can often be seen grooming themselves like cats, licking their antenna and legs clean. Roaches have distinct personalities. Some are bold and brash, other are shy and meek. Some are curious, others are oblivious. Hissing roaches are amazing. The males have bumps on their heads they use like ram's horns to headbutt each other with. They often wrestle each other for the right to get the best spot on the log. Before they do so, however, they signal their aggression by waving their butts around and hissing at each other.

Roaches are among the cutest of bugs, rivaling isopods, butterflies, jumping spiders, and bees. Stop using pesticides to get rid of them. Other animals, like birds and lizards, or even cats and dogs, can eat the roaches contaminated by the poison, and develop neurological conditions. If I see a roach in my house, I pick it up with my bare hands and put it outside.

Respect the roach.
