As someone who records all the concerts they been to, recording isn't why crowds are lame. Recording is amazing.

The whole "phones are ruining concerts" conversation is always interesting to be apart of as someone who believes in filming concerts. I think it's one of the best things about the show, cause when you film it, the show is never truly over, it can start up again when you want it.

I encourage more people to film. For a lot, it's a once in a lifetime experience. Sometimes someone's first show ends up being their last, at least for a very long time.

Not saying everyone should, but don't be afraid to. Yeah, some guy might call you an asshole and say "just enjoy the show", but you paid, it's your experience. Unless you're actively blocking someone's view, that is not fine. I always get there early and a spot at the front (either railing or somewhere close), when the show starts I whip out my phone or camera and record the whole thing while I'm watching the performance.

When recording, I hold it up no higher than my chin angled upward. If im behind someone, than it's to mouth level. I don't try to get the clearest view, but just what I'm feeling and experiencing. If the crowd jumps, I jump, not bothered if the footage is shakey. If I scream and shout, so what? I was clearly excited and happy to show that on a video.

I upload them to my dropbox to save space, and every once in a while I go back and watch them, feeling fond of the time I had at the show. Personally, watching them at home thinking back to the show is the best part of a concert. I've been to a bunch of shows, so I hadn't watched all of them, but always try to whenever I'm in the mood. I started this collection in February of 2019 according to my oldest video.

From an archival standpoint, I consider it to be important, and I'm glad more people choose too. I get why concerts aren't always recorded before; film cost, wanting people to actually go to the show rather than just watching it at home for free. But now since phones can hold hours of footage, not concert can truly go unforgotten now.

If the band does something really cool onstage that only happened at *your* show, then you have proof and bragging rights to other fans. Along with showing people who weren't fortunate enough to go to see it too.

Audiences aren't lame and unresponsive because of recording, at least none of the shows I went to, but that's because the people I saw actually had amazing stage presence and made the show worthwhile. Maybe crowds would react better if perfomers did better and put more heart into the shows rather than only going to collect a check.

You the musician might be there for a check, but the people who paid $100+ are there for an amazing show, and we're expecting a $100 dollar show, probably even more. Especially with these ridiculous ticket prices, audiences are expecting even more than before, that's why crowds are lame. Recording is not at fault.

If the show is real boring, expect to see people actually stop recording since there ain't nothing worth videoing.

I understand how touring can be a very stressful thing, imagining hosting a single show is stressful enough for me, but maybe instead of having an arena tour with tickets over $100, tour at bars or smaller venues for cheaper ticket prices, the audience would be much more likely to be responsive. Seeing a local band with a great presence is amazing, but take them and put them on a stage in the middle of the stadium where the nosebleeds seats costed a plane ticket without changing up their shows, now the show seems underwhelming.
