Planetronika is an animated series pilot created by Rafael Andaya about a space explorer named Butterfly and her alien sidekick Freestyle. The pilot, animated in a Y2K style reminiscent of shows like Totally Spies!, was first teased in December 2025 and was released on May 10th, 2026 to largely positive reception.
While many viewers enjoyed the show's nostalgic style and characters, some criticized the show's protagonist Butterfly for being too sexualized, using terms like "goon slop" or "gooner bait" to describe both her and the series. Others defended the show by pushing against the claims, or embracing the protagonist's depiction in the series. As the pilot went viral, it inspired fan art and content on social media.
