I’m gonna say it straight:about 90% of underground rap is garbage. And before people get defensive, I’m NOT talking about the whole scene, I’m talking about the underground specifically.
A lot of it is just low effort. Same recycled beats, same flows, same “mysterious” aesthetic, and half the time the mixing is terrible. People confuse being underground with being good, when really it just means you’re not mainstream yet. That’s it.
There’s definitely talent in the underground, don’t get me wrong. Some artists are insanely creative and pushing the sound forward. But they’re the minority. Most of it feels like people dropping music just to say they make music, not because they’ve actually developed their sound or skill.
And I think people gas it up too much just because it’s “different” or “underground.” Different doesn’t automatically mean good.
If anything, the underground has potential, but right now it’s oversaturated, and a lot of what’s coming out just isn’t hitting.
