FIFA recently released a new song for the 2026 World Cup sang by Jelly Roll, while it’s a new low in the lineup of songs we’ve had from previous editions of the World Cup it continues the trend of FIFA producing mediocre songs that fail to meet the grandeur of the World Cup.
Yes, the new World Cup anthem sounds like background music from a Ford SUV commercial but in terms of quality it sits pretty comfortably with the songs from the 2022 and 2018 editions.
2014 was slightly decent but very forgettable and of course 2010 with the official song by Shakira and the unofficial anthem by K’naan are exceptions. Pretty much anyone who makes the point that World Cup songs used to be good would struggle to point out any examples outside of the 2010 anthems.
